Production mode is about you exploring the data and slowly but surely gathering your insights and building your narrative.
Communication mode is about you taking your audience by the hand and thus thinking about the best ways to tell your story both in words and visual support.
It is tempting to stay in production mode, because after so much digging into the data, a lot of things might seem obvious to you. The problem, of course, is that they are only obvious to you, but not to your audience.
